Christopher Darnell’s said he didn’t believe his son was the shooter

Christopher Jones Sr stated that he didn’t believe the news about his son when called by the police on Monday morning. He described his son as someone with a winning smile and someone almost everyone in high school would’ve counted as their friend.

Jones Sr. stated that the last time he spoke to his son was about a month ago when Jones Jr. came to do laundry and admitted that something was off.

Chris Sr. recalled the conversation saying, “Yeah, he was real paranoid, when I talked to him, about some things. He wouldn’t tell me everything. He said some people were picking on him or whatever, he didn’t know how to handle it. I just told him to just go to school, don’t pay them no mind, do what you got to do, you only got one more year.”

Jones Jr’s mother, on the other hand, is Margo Ellis. U.S. Marshalls raided her home during the manhunt to locate her son, but he was not at the house. She could be spotted inside her van sobbing with her other children near her.

She told reporters that everything seemed fine on Sunday when she last spoke to Jones Jr.; they were even excited to celebrate his 23rd birthday, which was coming up on 17th November.

Christopher Jr’s parents divorced when he was five

Christopher Darnell Jones Jr’s parents divorced when he was five years old. His father was absent from his life for eleven years. Jones Jr. moved in with his father and his grandmother in Petersburg around his high school years after the relationship with his mother deteriorated.

Chris Sr. stated that he never expected anything like what happened on Sunday to occur, despite Jones Jr. having a rough upbringing and spending most of his time trying to readjust.

He stated that he would need to speak to his son face to face to offer support and to understand what was going on in his mind to drive him to such drastic measures. He said:

“What happened? Why did it have to get this far? He could’ve called me. I don’t know why he didn’t call me Saturday. If he had called me Saturday, I think maybe I could have talked him out of some things, maybe, hopefully.”
