Ross Barkley is a professional football player who, until recently, played for Chelsea FC, having signed with them in 2018. He was released from the club in August 2022 after both parties agreed to terminate his contract.

Barkley began his professional career in 2010 when he signed for Everton. He became a regular in the starting lineup after loan spells in Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United.

Barkley also represented England at several international levels. He, however, enjoyed success domestically with Chelsea, having won the FA Cup in 2018, the UEFA Europa League in 2019, and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2021.

Ross’s Nigerian father abandoned the family when Ross was young

Ross Barkley is the son of Peter Effanga and Diane Barkley. Barkley is of Nigerian heritage from his father’s side, while his mother is English and Caucasian, making him of mixed race.

He worked as an automobile engineer for the Getrag Ford Transmission plant in the United Kingdom. His mother, Diane, was a housewife at the time. They both resided in Liverpool.

Barkley had an estranged relationship with his father growing up: Effanga abandoned the family when Barkley was young. Therefore, Ross dropped his father’s name in favor of his mother’s maiden name ‘Barkley.’ Despite this, his father encouraged him to play football and had a part to play in Barkley joining Everton when he was eleven years old.

Not much is known about Diane other than the aspect of Ross choosing her maiden name as his own. Most of her information is not in the public limelight.
