Suella Braverman resigned as Home Secretary on 19th October 2022, becoming the latest casualty of Liz Truss’ revolving-door government. Braverman pulled no punches in her public resignation letter, lambasting compatriots for refusing to acknowledge their mistakes. Braverman wrote:

“I have concerns about the direction of this government. Not only have we broken key pledges that were promised to our voters, but I have had serious concerns about this government’s commitment to honoring manifesto commitments.”

Braverman has abandoned the rapidly sinking ship that is Liz Truss’ administration. Suella and her party have encountered choppy waters, but her family life seems stable. This piece looks at Suella Braverman’s husband, Rael Braverman.

Rael and Suella tied the knot in the House of Commons

Rael and Suella met through mutual friends and struck up a connection. The couple’s first date involved a tour of parliament courtesy of Suella. Rael, a manager at Mercedes, described the date as unusual but enjoyable due to his life-long interest in politics.

“I thoroughly enjoyed it and we agreed to meet up again,” Rael said. “We had our first ‘proper’ date a few weeks later and it all took off from there.”

Suella said she knew Rael was the one when he campaigned for her in treacherous conditions. “I realized he was the one when he came out delivering leaflets for the election in the pouring rain,” Braverman said

Rael proposed to Suella in Cyprus in October 2017. “I was absolutely delighted,” Suella said. “I am so thrilled to have to marry him.’

After three years of dating, the couple wed at the House of Commons. The pair capped the February 2018 nuptials with a celebration at a Holiday Inn in Titchfield, Hampshire. Suella said:

“I would like to thank everyone who came along to my marriage celebration yesterday and made it such a special occasion. Rael has been such a big support to me over the last few years and I am so thrilled to have married him and excited to be spending the rest of our lives together.”

The couple has kept the identities of their two children secret

In January 2019, Suella tweeted that she and her husband were expecting Baby Braverman. “The last month has been nauseating, and not because of Brexit,” Suella wrote.

On 10th July 2019, Suella delivered George Jeffrey Braverman, a healthy baby boy. Braverman thanked the hospital staff for the care they offered and expressed delight about parenting. She said:

“My husband and I are absolutely delighted at the birth of George and we’re very grateful for all the good wishes and support that we have received from friends, family and constituents.”

Despite being on maternity leave, Suella Braverman continued voting in parliament through her proxy. “The proxy voting scheme is important because it ensures that MPs can vote as normal while looking after their newborn children,” Suella said.

Braverman added that through her team, she would continue executing her duties to the party and to her constituents. “During my leave, I will continue to deal with casework, enquiries or other matters as raised by residents,” Suella stated

Suella’s daughter, Gabriella, arrived on 7th March 2021. Braverman thanked the NHS Maternity Team that aided in the safe delivery of her child.

Braverman and Rael are very secretive about their children; they haven’t posted the kids’ photos on the internet.
